What is the Melanoma Awareness & Prevention Campaign?
There are three forms of skin cancer. The two most common are Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Basal Cell Carcinoma. And the most serious form is Melanoma. However, if it is recognized and treated early, it is nearly 100 percent curable. If not, the cancer can advance and spread to other parts of your body, where it is hard to treat and can be fatal.
Everyone is at risk for Melanoma, but increased risks depend on several factors: sun exposure, number of moles on the skin, skin type & family history. While your own medical history will determine your susceptibility to Melanoma, there is no doubt that staying out of the sun, using effective sunscreens daily and having annual mole/skin checks with your doctor is a good idea for everyone.
