The Spa at Charleston Place, in collaboration with the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), has introduced the “I Will Reflect” (IWR) Melanoma Prevention Initiative to increase awareness of—and help prevent—skin cancer.
The initiative strives to educate the public about the importance of safe sun habits and the dangers of melanoma, especially prevalent in the Lowcountry. Since 2008, the campaign has raised more than $30,000.
To do our bit, we have developed specific treatments in The Spa. For example, we have a special 50-minute “I Will Reflect” Facial treatment that gives guests the ultimate skin treatment plus important advice on sun safety.
As part of the IWR campaign, The Spa has compiled a simple, easy-to-remember five-point plan:
I Will Reflect…
- … and wear sunscreen all-year round.
- … and use a minimum of 15 SPF Broad Spectrum sunscreen.
- … and seek the shade between 10am and 4pm.
- … and have an annual full-body skin check.
- … and share this important message with friends and family.
To boost awareness of the sun’s harmful rays, purchase the IWR bracelet that glows purple every time your skin is exposed to harmful sun rays. You’ll not only protect yourself but 100% of the proceeds will go to MUSC's cancer research.
