London
This bustling, cosmopolitan city is full of historic treasures, rich heritage and culture and the home to royal palaces, world-renowned museums and galleries and many historical landmarks.
The sense of history they evoke combined with the city's exciting pulse make this one of the world's greatest destinations. Fine dining, erudite museums and libraries, graceful theatres and bustling street markets are all crammed into this city of backstreets and pathways which wind their way through elegant streets and along the banks of the Thames with its characteristic bridges.
Historical landmarks such as Westminster Abbey and the Tower of London are just moments away from the steel and glass shimmering towers of Canary Wharf. London is proud to move with the times but the great and the good of London architecture is fiercely protected and on show, in perfect condition, today.
In between the tangle of streets, many of which were built in medieval times, are vast stretches of parkland. Some are glorious carefully tended ornamental gardens (St James's Park) while others are only just tamed wildernesses (Hampstead Heath). Walking through London is a magical tour which hurls you back and forth through history, with everchanging centuries, even the decades have stamped their mark. |
